Foundayo Doses Explained: Why Are the Strengths So Unusual?

If you’ve looked at the Foundayo dose list and thought:

0.8mg? 5.5mg? 14.5mg? Who came up with these numbers?

You’re not alone.

Foundayo doesn’t follow the neat-looking dose pattern people may be used to seeing with some other weight-management medicines.

But there is a proper dose ladder behind those slightly unusual numbers.

What doses does Foundayo come in?

Foundayo is available in six pill strengths:

0.8mg, 2.5mg, 5.5mg, 9mg, 14.5mg and 17.2mg.

The active ingredient is orforglipron.

Each strength is part of the gradual dose-increase schedule used when someone starts treatment.

So no, the numbers haven’t been chosen by throwing darts at a calculator.

What is the starting dose of Foundayo?

The usual starting dose is 0.8mg once daily.

This lower starting dose gives the body time to adjust before the dose is increased.

After at least 30 days, the dose can usually be increased to 2.5mg once daily, depending on the person’s response and tolerability.

What happens after 2.5mg?

If a higher dose is appropriate, Foundayo can be increased step by step.

The dose sequence is:

0.8mg → 2.5mg → 5.5mg → 9mg → 14.5mg → 17.2mg

Dose increases are generally made only after at least 30 days at the current strength.

That doesn’t mean everyone automatically climbs the entire ladder.

Your prescriber decides whether moving up makes sense.

Is 17.2mg the highest Foundayo dose?

Yes.

17.2mg once daily is the maximum recommended dose.

But “maximum” does not mean “target for everyone”.

Some people may remain on a lower dose depending on how they respond and how well they tolerate treatment.

Higher does not automatically mean better.

Why does Foundayo increase gradually?

Gradual dose increases are common with GLP-1 medicines.

The reason is simple: increasing slowly can help healthcare professionals assess how well the treatment is tolerated and whether the next step is appropriate.

That is why dose increases should be guided by a prescriber rather than treated as a race to the top.

There is no prize for reaching 17.2mg first.

Can you combine Foundayo pills to make a higher dose?

You should not try to create your own dose by mixing or combining pills unless your prescriber has specifically told you to do so.

Foundayo is prescribed in set pill strengths, and the dose should be adjusted by a qualified healthcare professional.

DIY dosing and prescription medicines are not a particularly good pairing.

Does the price change with the dose?

It can.

Private providers may charge different prices depending on:

  • the strength
  • the provider
  • whether the price is introductory
  • delivery charges
  • new-customer offers
  • ongoing treatment prices

That means a low starting price does not always tell you what the later doses may cost.

What should you compare?

If you’re comparing Foundayo providers, look at more than the first price you see.

Check:

  • the exact dose
  • the regular price
  • whether the offer is for new customers only
  • delivery charges
  • current stock
  • ongoing pricing

That gives you a much clearer idea of the real cost of treatment over time.
